I went on a trip to Villa General Belgrano last weekend with a few friends. This little village in the Sierras of Cordoba is shaped by German immigrants, who first arrived in 1929. Villa General Belgrano is very proud of its German past. The "Oktoberfest" is celebrated in October with locally brewed beer. If you stroll through the streets you will see a lot of wooden plates with German names. It is not uncommon that you listen to German folk music of the 1950/60/70s in the many little stores. For a moment you feel like you are in a small village in the black forest. The architecture is very typical for a village in the mountains of Europe and in restaurants traditional German food is served. Only when you talk to the people you realize that you are more than 10.000 km away from home, in Argentina.

Villa General Belgrano, Cordoba

Am vergangenen Wochenende habe ich mit einigen Freunden einen Ausflug nach Villa General Belgrano unternommen. Das von deutschen Einwanderern geprägte Dorf in den Sierras von Cordoba zeigt auch heute noch stolz das kulturelle Erbe. Im Oktober wird z.B. das Oktoberfest mit vor Ort gebrauten Bieren gefeiert. Wenn man durch die Straßen des ca. 6000 Seelen Dorfes schlendert, entdeckt man auf den Holztafeln viele deutsche Namen und aus den Lautsprechern in den vielen kleinen Geschäften schallt nicht selten deutsche Volksmusik. Für einen Moment glaubt man in einem kleinem Dorf im Schwarzwald zu sein. Der Baustil erinnert sehr stark an ein Bergdorf in Europa. In den unzähligen Restaurants werden einem so typische Gerichte wie Kartoffelbrei mit Sauerkraut oder Gulasch angeboten. Doch sobald man mit den Menschen sprechen möchte, wird einem deutlich, dass man über 10.000 Km von der Heimat entfernt ist.

Villa General Belgrano, Cordoba

El fin de semana fui a Villa General Belgrano con unos amigos. Este pequeño pueblo de Cordoba fue fundado por alemanes en 1929 y hoy se puede apreciar la influencia de los inmigrantes en el lugar. Villa General Belgrano está muy orgulloso de su pasado. En Octubre se festeja la fiesta de la cerveza y en las calles hay muchos carteles en alemán. En las numerosas y pequeñas tiendas se puede escuchar música folklórica de Alemania de los años 1950-1970. Por un rato uno se siente como si estuviera en un pueblo en las montañas en Europa. La arquitectura también es muy europea y en los restaurantes se sirven numerosas comidas alemanas. Solamente cuando hablas con la gente te das cuenta que estás a más de 10.000 km lejos de la patria, en Argentina.
